Reiki and Addictions

[00:00:00]

Pam: So tonight in our [00:01:00] Reiki share, I wanted to talk  about addictions. And  I had an opportunity to learn quite a bit about this through one of my clients several years ago now.  I think it's six or seven years ago. I was approached by a client who had a problem with alcohol, an addiction to alcohol. It was a weekend type addiction, but it was something that he couldn't control. And it caused him quite a lot of grief and he just got to the point with his addiction that he wanted to be done with.

And he had actually gone to a Reiki healer previously, but it wasn't actually his idea that time. It was his family that brought him and had intervened. But this time it was his idea. He just was tired of alcohol running his life. He gave me permission to [00:02:00] tell his story. I won't use his name, but he actually sat down with me and we put together an article for the Reiki News Magazine about his specific story.  I am going to put a link to that article in the podcast  for those of you listening in case you'd like to read it.

So this client approached me and said, look, is there anything you can do to help me with addictions? And I said, I'm not sure. Let me check. So one of the things that I always do is I ask my guidance and  I'm so fortunate that I've always been able to hear my guidance. I've been able to hear Reiki. I'm able to hear messages from Source or Spirit or God or whatever name that you want to use for the origin of all.  I use the word God, and I said, "God, is there anything we can do for this young [00:03:00] man who wants to be done with his addiction?" And I'm Blessed and thankful  at what came of it, because  addictions are a problem that affect most people and whether they affect you directly, it's very unusual to not have someone in your life who struggles with addiction, someone in your family or someone in your life. And those are the bigger addictions. Many of us also suffer from smaller addictions as well. And we'll talk about that a little bit also.

So what I was told was that yes, it is possible to help him.  There's a technique that we teach at the Reiki Master level with Holy Fire® called Spirit Release. And  also in the podcast, I'm going to put a link to an article that William Rand wrote  which describes [00:04:00] how to do a Spirit Release process if you don't have Holy Fire® or if you're not at the master level yet, it's still possible to do that process.  And it's really well explained in the article. It talks about three or four different things in the article. It doesn't talk about spirit release until a little further down in the article, but I'm just going to encourage you if you are not already working with a spirit release process and you're interested in doing this work, you can go ahead and check out that link.

I want to just tell you first what the spirit release work is in case that's new to you in case you are not familiar with it. One of the things that has been evident to us in Reiki is that there are energies that do not seem to have a consciousness.  In Shamanism, you would call that type of energy and intrusion and you can use that language in [00:05:00] Reiki as well, but it's basically an energy  without conscious. And then there are other energies that do have consciousness.

So the energies without consciousness they respond very beautifully to Reiki and things like hands-on Reiki sessions,  they're just the layers, the ways and worries of the world that have come up and they respond very well for instance, the layers and the energies without consciousness, to things like the Holy Fire Healing Experience and all kinds of other Reiki techniques. And what we found is the energies with consciousness. Sometimes were a little bit more stubborn. They could sometimes hang on a little easier and be a little more difficult to release.

And so I was so happy when the Holy Fire® energy showed up and it showed up with the [00:06:00] specific consciousness and information that one of the things  it was here to do was to help us release energies with consciousness because everyone has a right to be sovereign in their own bodies. We have the right to be the only consciousness in our body okay.

So what are these energies of consciousness? There are several things. They can be the energy of disease. Most disease has a certain level of consciousness. So you've got the energy of cancer and fibromyalgia, and just about every disease or condition that you can think of has a small level of consciousness with it.

So therefore diseases respond really well to the spirit release process, because they can sometimes be a little stickier, a little more difficult to release [00:07:00] and the spirit release process releases them. And you also sometimes have  energies with consciousness like uncrossed souls or things like that. And those also respond to the spirit release process. What the energy told me on that day is that the energy of addictions also responds to the spirit release process because it has a level of consciousness. So it is considered like a spirit attachment and it responds to the spirit release process and the energy went on  to explain to me a little bit about addictions that I really would like to share with you today.

And what it said is that there are large "A" and small "a" addictions. And I didn't really understand it, but what the energy said was there are addictions [00:08:00] that kind of can control a person. Those are a large "A" addiction. Like an addiction that a person has absolutely no control over. So this could be something like somebody who is an alcoholic, or maybe has a gambling addiction or any kind of addiction. And there can be a lot of different types of addictions. We often think of alcohol or drugs with regards to addiction, but sometimes you can have people that are addicted to drama and people that are addicted to abusive relationships or codependent relationships.

You can have people who are addicted to exercise, to video games.  There are all kinds of things. Coffee. I used to plan my camping trips around where I could get my coffee, because if I couldn't have a one to two cups of coffee every morning, it was going to be a bad day. And I was trying to plan, [00:09:00] okay, I'm going to camping in the woods with the kids . How can I make sure I get some coffee ? And so these are all addictions and whether it is a large, "A", or small, "a", how much hold it has on you. So for instance, I was addicted to coffee. It wasn't a large, "A" addiction. It meaning that I could say after one or two cups "okay, that's enough." I didn't have to keep drinking it all day. It didn't have a complete hold on me. But it was definitely still an addiction. So this was a small "a" addiction, that I had.

And I have a question in the chat. What about accidental addictions? Like for instance, you're put on medication, pain medications or other types of medications prescribed by doctors, but then find yourself addicted to those medications or perhaps to the effects or your body has [00:10:00] become dependent on those medications. And definitely, that is an addiction. And so it can be released with the Spirit Release Process.

Now here's what happened. I just I'd like to walk you through how it seems to work. What I was told is that both large and small "a" addictions can respond to one session. This isn't something though that you can do for someone who is unaware. It doesn't seem to be something you can force on someone. So if somebody has an addiction to anything maybe it's just bad friendships or whatever a person is addicted to, they have to want to release the addiction.

And here's why, especially with large "A" addictions, I was told that for instance, with my friend, his addiction was a large "A" addiction. It wasn't [00:11:00] something that he could control. He couldn't say I'm having three drinks. As soon as he had one, he had to go all the way with it  until he didn't remember the next day.

And so that was a large "A" addiction. It was something that he had no control over. And the energy said, yeah, if he wants, you can release it. But if he takes a drink, he'll call it back. Just one drink. So I explained that to him and I said, "but here's the thing, this process, it's not hard to do." And I certainly wouldn't want to be told I could never have another cup of coffee or I would call it back to myself. " So here's the thing. If you decide you want a drink and you call it back and then you decide  you wished you hadn't called it back, just let me know. We can release it again." And he really felt that lack of [00:12:00] judgment in there. The fact that this was completely his choice and that if he decided to call it back, nobody was pointing a finger at him or calling him a bad person or anything like that.

I just said, "look, it's a really simple technique. And if for some reason you call it back no problem. Just let me know. And I'll do the technique again, as many times as you want. And as many times as you need, until you achieve your desired result." I only had to do it once because he knew that this was completely his choice because he knew that if he did backslide, we would just do it again. We did the technique once and here's the interesting thing. He didn't want to drink afterward. He just didn't want to. It grossed him out. His drink of choice up until then had been I think Pepsi [00:13:00] and rum. He couldn't even smell it without it turning his stomach. He didn't even want Pepsi. It just kinda grossed him out.

So he really had an aversion to it. Now I've also done this technique with people who wanted to give up an addiction to cigarettes, same thing. They did not like the taste. They didn't even want a cigarette afterwards, they didn't like the taste of it. Coffee, same thing. I used to give up coffee regularly and then my husband makes it for himself every day. And he makes a really, for those of you, who've been here at the farm, he makes a really good cup of coffee and it smells amazing. I still love the smell of it. I just don't like the taste of it anymore. And so,  I've given up coffee three or four times and gone through the headache and the withdrawal and all of that. And I give it up for a month or two, but I wanted every day and [00:14:00] this time after I understood, after I got an opportunity to work with this young man on releasing his alcohol addiction, I looked at myself and said, I am completely addicted to coffee. And it doesn't really settle well in my stomach. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but I knew for my body chemistry, it wasn't good for me. It gave me heartburn. It didn't make me feel good. So I actually did the spirit release for myself with coffee, and I just didn't want it anymore. And the other thing that was really neat is that in the past, I  after a couple of months, I would just say, I'm just going to have one and t hat was it. I was back in it every day again, I could not get out. Now probably about three or four times a year,  if I really have a chill, I decide that I'd like to have a latte and I drink the latte and then I really don't care if I ever have another latte again. So the spirit [00:15:00] release process, using that with addictions is incredibly powerful.

I have a question "what about things like food addiction, where you just can't quit eating? Do you call it back every time you eat?" That's a really good question. I think that there's a couple of things you could do there. Go ahead and release the addiction. And then look to see if there are any other factors that are going on in there because sometimes there's a trauma or a lack of self-love or something like that  that's actually underneath the addiction. In fact, in a class with William Rand, he talks about the heart. That pretty much every addiction comes from an injury that has happened to the heart.

And so with Karuna Reiki, we have a particular symbol. That [00:16:00] can heal the heart. And so what I think I would do is release the addiction and then really go in and look at working with Reiki on the root cause. And again, if you find yourself sliding into an old habit or an old pattern, I still, look, you guys, I still have to release potato chips. I've released them a few times and then I'm like,  I don't even want them, but I think I'm going to call them back. And so lately I've been eating potato chips again and they don't feel good in my stomach. It's the same for me, potato chips are not good for my chemistry. I feel ill after I eat them. And so it's time to release potato chips, but I consciously bring it back. So I'm going to need to really look inside and say, why do I do that self-destructive habit? And in fact, the meditation we're going to do tonight, whether you have addictions or [00:17:00] not - and Sharon says, my body is craving the sodium. You're absolutely right, Sharon. That's exactly what it is. And so I'll have to find another source of sodium, like popcorn, which doesn't seem to bother my stomach. Whether you have any addictions that you're aware of or not, we all have habits that are not in our best interest. And so for the meditation that we're going to do as part of  this evening is going to be around those habits. And if there is an addiction present, we will also release that  and you can  also experience that because maybe there's someone in your life or in your practice or maybe there will be someone that you need to help with this. And so you'll have an opportunity to experience it. And we'll also look at getting into the root cause and seeing if we can let that go as well.

guest: I just have a question on this. Since we can say the Karuna symbols out [00:18:00] loud, would you mind saying what symbol you were talking about with the heart?

Pam: Hearth? I believe it's hearth. I might be wrong. It's either hearth or Halu yeah. You're welcome. They heal the heart. And so when you're working, whether you're working for yourself or a client, it's a very rare person who doesn't have some sort of addiction. Look, I'm addicted to reading, but that's something I'm not going to release because I love reading.

And so far, it's all it's ever damaged as my eyesight, because I continue to read in a terrible light deficiency. When it's after dark, I'm still reading. My mother always said, that'll damage your eyesight reading in the dark like that.  But most people have something. When you think about it, you know that there is something that you're aware of that's not in your best interest. That's not helping you. I'd [00:19:00] like to tell you that, that young man released that addiction, he was grossed out by alcohol. At first  he also continued hanging around with the same crowd  and they gave him a hard time at first "come on, you were so much fun. You were crazy." But it didn't take them very long to realize that they always had a designated driver with him. And so he was  actually able to go to bars and things like that, and still not be affected.

One thing he noticed though, is that he did want to find something to drink just to fit in. And at first he would have a couple of glasses of Pepsi, but he found,  he didn't like the caffeine and he didn't like the sugar. And then he discovered that non-alcohol beer was something that he enjoyed.

And so he'd have one or two of those while his friends had drinks. And then he was always available to drive everyone home. They wound up getting [00:20:00] married and are doing incredibly well. And he's just never had a drink and that's been six or seven years ago. And just hasn't wanted it. Now not everybody, I've also worked with people with cigarettes who after a while called them back and such and myself with potato chips, I called them back. But I've never called coffee back and I'm really happy about that. That's been really positive for me. And a lot of other people have had really tremendous success with this, but I think the fact that the pressure is off because if you slip and go back into it, you just go through and do the spirit release technique again and just release the addiction again.

There is something though, sometimes, with some drugs it can  take some time to get off, like to stop. So not everything can be quit [00:21:00] completely the way that the alcohol was with my friend. Sometimes it's important to wean off of things,  under the doctor or pharmacist's supervision,  just so that you can be safe in that. And sometimes a really severe alcoholic couldn't just stop. They would die due to withdrawal. And so in those instances by all means, it's something that you can just work on along with a licensed medical professional. And it's something that it may not happen in one go. It might be something that's more of a gradual release and there's nothing wrong with that, but it is still, it's a fairly simple process. So it is something that you could follow a client  and help them with that gradual release.

You can also release a lot of the side effects as well, which is pretty [00:22:00] positive.

So does anybody have any questions so far about any of that?

I have a question about releasing addiction to playing games on the phone or other devices, especially kids. And it is true that our technology can be very addictive and sometimes it's even designed that way. And so yes, this process would also assist with that type of addiction. I  find I'm even a little bit addicted to my phone at times. So perhaps I'll work on that next.

Someone mentioned that you felt an element of fear as the root cause. That makes perfect sense because when you think about it, duality, the duality that we live in here on the earth is love and fear. And everything positive comes from love. Everything negative comes from fear. So [00:23:00] absolutely that makes perfect sense that fear, fear and trauma, they're all  in the same category and it makes perfect sense that fear would be present.

Guys, we're going to move into the meditation portion of this then. And I'd like to give you an opportunity to experience this. And what I'm going to do is I'm going to use a combination technique today of the Holy Fire® healing experience together with the spirit release.

Now the spirit release is something that I'll be doing some of it out loud. But I'd like you to participate in it with me if you would. So I'd just like you to think about some habit or addiction that you'd like to change in your life. And just give that a little bit of thought.

And you may not [00:24:00] have an addiction, but you might have a habit or a pattern that you'd like to release. So just think about something in your life that you'd like to release and think about that for a moment. Just considering the following, if that habit or pattern or addiction exists in a part of your body, where would it be?

and if that energy had a shape, what shape would it have?

And if it had a color, what color [00:25:00] would it be?

Would the energy be heavy or light?

And the other question is, are you willing to release that energy completely?

And you may not be. It might be something that you'd like to release by percentages, and  that's okay.

Just state the amount that you'd be willing to release today. So for instance, If it's something that might be dangerous for you to release completely, you can turn it over to the Reiki energy and ask to release each day, a safe amount for you.

[00:26:00] And I'd like you to think about the root cause of this addiction or destructive behavior or bad habit. And I'd like you to ask yourself if that root cause if the energy or the emotion or whatever, or the trauma that is the root cause of this exists in a part of your body, where would it be?

What shape would that root cause have?

And what color would it be?

Would it be heavy or tight or uncomfortable in any way? And would you be willing to let the root cause go today?

And if you're not able or [00:27:00] willing to let it go completely, just think about what percentage you'd be willing to

release.

And once you have that in your mind, we're ready to begin.

I'm just going to invite you now to close your eyes and take a

deep breath.

Just letting go of any expectations or

any attachment to any outcomes

letting go of the busy-ness of your day. And if anything you need to think about later, this moment is about you and for you. So give yourself this time to focus your attention on you.

I invite you to take a deep [00:28:00] breath and just get more comfortable. And as you do imagine that it's a beautiful, warm,

sunny day and that you're walking through a path in a beautiful forest.

And as you walk along the life, essence of the forest flows into your body on your breath and the energy of the earth flows up through the bottoms of your feet.

You come to a path that leads to the left and you decide to follow that path.

Follow that path until you come to a clearing in the forest. And in the middle of the clearing is a small hill covered with soft grass and beautiful wildflowers.

[00:29:00] I invite you to climb up the hill and as you do feel the grass and the wild flowers rubbing against your legs.

When you get to the top of the hill, you notice that there's a beautiful standing stone circle made up of 13 stone.

You pause beside one of the stones and touch it and doing so connects you with your family history and your family lineage,

your ancestors. Many times addictions or destructive behaviors are passed down through our family lineage.

And [00:30:00] sometimes we are meant to be the one to break this pattern for our descendants.

I invite you to walk to the center of the stone circle and to lie down, gazing up at the sky, feeling the grass and the earth beneath your body. Gazing at the beautiful clouds above you in the brilliant blue sky.

And as you gaze at the clouds, a beam of light pierces, the clouds and it shines down upon you all around you

and it brings you feelings of [00:31:00] safety and love

you realize right away, this is no ordinary light. It is a light that is coming from the highest heavens

light begins to focus on the shapes you identify.

I invite you to focus on the shapes yourself and simply be willing to let them go with Reiki. You don't need to do anything to earn it. You simply have to be willing.

And if there are any addictions present, we release those to now with love, understanding that these energies are all going to a place where they will be listened to and heard, [00:32:00] and nurtured and healed all the way back to their original cause.

And as we release any addictions, we also release any cords or connectors or sources of power, any assignments or anyone who's given them a sign. And any of their effects or any residues and re release them from any time in your soul's history on behalf of you.

And if this pattern or habit or addiction has existed in your family, lineage, your ancestors, we release it on their behalf as well.

And we're going to stay in silence in this place. For some moments, as these energies are released,

[00:34:00] [00:33:00] And if there are any injuries or trauma that are at the [00:35:00] base of these, we release those two now with love

so that they can be healed all the way back to their original cause

the light of harmony. And self-love. Flow through you

taking up the space that these energies once occupied, [00:36:00] let's stay here for some moments,

And the light of peace and the light of ease flow through you now.

So that you will find it effortless. To create positive habits

to take the place of any destructive ones.

[00:37:00] And the light of love goes through you and fills you. And you remember that you are love.

That is part of the human condition. Our tremendous ability to love.

And you can feel the light of divine love flow through you, [00:38:00] reconnecting

you with self love.

I'd like you to think for a moment of a positive habit that you would like to empower

and then think of someone in your life who embodies that habit or for whom it is already a part of their lives and invite the energy of that positive habit to flow through you and to become empowered within you now.

[00:39:00] Look inside and notice your light. Notice how brightly you shine and feel the light from the heart of God, shining into the light of your heart as the light of the day. Also flows into and through

And you're empowered by the light. And the light of your heart begins to shine out in front of you behind you on each side above you, below you, within you.

And [00:40:00] your Divine spirit is one with your human spirit.

And you realize that your body is made of the earth to give your spirit, life, and breath. And you consider how you would like to treat this beautiful body that we so often take for granted.

The lungs that breathe without any instruction for us, the blood that circulates the hormones, the thoughts,

the knowledge, the emotions, all of those beautiful body systems, the nerve central nervous system that we so often take for granted [00:41:00] keeping us safe,

providing a beautiful container for our soul and our spirit,

giving our spirit life and breath so that we can live this physical existence on the earth.

And so we take a moment to move into a space of gratitude.

Grateful to each other, for every person listening to this today, supporting every other person.

Grateful for this opportunity to help ourselves and to help others.

[00:42:00] Grateful to the teachers who came before us bringing us these ways since ancient times so that they are available to us. And we are never helpless in any situation.

We have a tool, we have an energy. We have a technique. We are supported.

Look inside yourself now and recognize your beauty.

Because once you begin to see your own beauty, you begin to see it in everything and everyone around you and the earth, this world reveals to you how absolutely extra ordinary it is.

[00:43:00] And some times the person we can be in judgment of the most is ourselves.

And yet judgment has no place here. It fulfills no purpose.

So if you've had a habit or an addiction or a pattern that you're not comfortable with, or not happy with, release any judgment around it.

Believe that you were doing the best that you could with the knowledge that you had

and going forward, [00:44:00] you will remember your beauty because when we forget how beautiful we are, we believe ourselves to be destructive. And so we create our lives from that place.

But when we realize and recognize our beauty,

that is the space we create from and our lives reflect it.

I want to thank each and every one of you for being here with us today. [00:45:00] Thank you for the beautiful light that you are in the world.

Thank you for the difference you are making to others.

Thank you for inspiring others, with your honesty and your integrity.

As you face your struggles

and step into your journey.

Take a moment to appreciate the courage,

the courage in being you

[00:46:00] and being that bright light that the world needs so much right now.

Thank you for listening to you, your spirit, which is whole and beautiful and brilliant right there inside of you.

Thank you for remembering that

Aho Mitakuye Oyasin. Namaste. Amen. Amin. Ashé. Shalom. And so it is. Thank you.

[00:47:00] I invite you to take your time returning.

You're welcome. And I see a note that some of you felt that going back into the past generations, and I forgot to mention that earlier about one of the things that did show up is that many addictions, many people who come and experience addictions actually come intending to break the pattern on behalf of their ancestors, but then sometimes they don't have the tools or the ability or opportunity. I don't know many people who don't have addictions going back in our lineage at some point.

So I'm really grateful that you guys all showed up tonight and allowed us to [00:48:00] do some releasing work on that.

And somebody mentioned you started with one issue and found another, that asked to be released. That is fantastic.

And I'm seeing people say that they feel so much lighter.

Thank you for joining us.
